Who Is This? Matthew 21:1-11

Written by Bryan Racey

10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” 11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”  Matthew 21:10-11

Read Matthew 21:1-11

Expectation...."a strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the future.... a belief that someone will or should achieve something."

Three years of teaching, healing, serving, preaching but also challenging, confronting, upsetting, rebuking, redefining.  Crowds laying branches, palms and garments down to line his path.  Throngs shouting "Hosanna," "Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!"  King treatment.

"Who is this?" they asked.  At the beginning of the week commemorating liberation from slavery, the Son of David heads into the City of David.  The humble lamb of God, Emanuel... God with us, going to the dwelling place of God, the Temple.  His home.  Who is this?  Who were they expecting?

Ah, but we have 20/20 hindsight you say.  True.

But, it’s still relevant…..King?  Traitor?  Conqueror?  Wise teacher?  Lord?  Preventer of any more wounds?  Messiah?  Humble prophet?  Servant Leader?  Revolutionary?      God incarnate?  Blasphemer?  Get out of jail free card?

Who is this indeed…..
